Windshield Repair or Windshield Replacement?

Be Prepared for a Windshield Repair or Windshield Replacement

We recommend getting a chip repaired as soon as possible! You can have a chip repaired at a fraction of the cost of a new windshield. A new windshield can cost from $250 up to $600 depending on the year, make, and model. Most all chips can be repaired if they are smaller than a dollar bill and have not broken through the second layer of glass. If the chip is in the Driver’s line of sight the windshield should be replaced as it is a distraction for the driver and could lead to an accident. Chip repairs are repaired with a resign and a cure light and then polished out.

Most cracks on a windshield can be stop drilled so that they don’t crack any further. You want to get those chips taken care of before rain, dirt, and snow get in the chip and cause more damage by freezing and then cracking the windshield. Most insurance companies cover chip repairs at no cost to you. That is right that almost all insurance companies will waive your deductible if you get the windshield repaired. We work with all insurance companies so when you make that glass claim with your insurance company just tell them you would like to use Stevens Glass and they will fax us the information to bill them directly.

A chip repair typically takes 20–30 minutes. No appointment is necessary, and we can even handle the claim process with your insurance company for you while the repair is in process. If you do end up needing a full windshield replacement, then all that you are responsible for is your deductible. If you do not want to use your insurance, we offer a great cash price. It is forty-five dollars for the first chip and fifteen dollars for each additional chip on the same vehicle.

  • I thought it was interesting that even the smallest cracks in a windshield could collect dirt and crack further. My friend recently got her windshield cracked while driving on a dirt road. I’ll share this information with her so she can get the repairs done before the cracks expand.

  • It’s good to learn more about chips and cracks in the windshield. I know that a new one costs a lot more, but our windshield now has multiple chips in it, and one long crack. Doesn’t that mean it’s smart to get the whole thing replaced?

Yes Ridley I would say it is time to get your windshield replaced. It would cost almost the same amount to get all the chips and the crack stop drilled than it would to get a new windshield. We would be happy to help. Give us a call at 907-745-1600 for a quote.
